Off Label Use of Products

Not all pesticides can be used off-label, as the detection of residues exceeding permitted limits can be significantly costly for growers.

However, all of Botry-Zen’s products are approved for off-label use. This approval is specified by MPI in each product’s registration documentation. When using our products off-label, users must strictly follow the directions provided on the label—particularly the EPA application restrictions, including the maximum application rate, frequency, and total annual usage.

Growers should also consult with their relevant industry association (e.g., the Blueberry Association or Zespri) to determine if there are any restrictions on specific products or active ingredients before making a selection. Some associations maintain a list of “Approved Products” that must be used, while others offer more flexibility.

For detailed guidance on off-label use, refer to the latest version of the NZGAP Off-Label Guidelines (link below), published by NZGAP.

Also available below are two key resources from NZGAP:

  • Appendix 1: A decision tree that outlines whether an agrichemical meets ACVM and EPA off-label guidelines.

  • Appendix 2: A checklist to help ensure compliance.
