SEED TREATMENTS: A quick overview

DEFINITION: Seed treatments are physical, chemical, or biological applications applied before planting to protect seeds, boost germination, and strengthen early seedlings. They include fungicides, insecticides, nematicides, microbial inoculants, nutrient or polymer coatings, and priming agents that alter moisture or metabolism. Goals are disease and pest control, faster/uniform emergence, improved stress tolerance, and easier handling. Applied as dry coatings, liquids, films, or encapsulations, they’re formulated and regulated for efficacy, crop safety, and environmental impact.
